Jason Paulsen was born in 1971 in Columbus, Ohio. He was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 5. Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus. This clogs the lungs and leads to lifethreatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. Jason and thousands of others suffered from this disease. In the 1950s children who were diagnosed with this disease lived only to attend elementary school. Today, advance research with new innovative medicines has sufferers living up to 5 times their life expectancy of those in the past.

On May 2, 2010 the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation had their "Great Strides." This event is design to raise awareness and funding for Cystic Fibrosis research and ultimately a cure for this disease. The event consisted of a 5 mile walk and refreshments after the walk.

Merlin Packaging Technologies, Inc. is proud to sponsor such a great event and walk along with Jason and his supporters. Jason is now in his late 30s and he gives hope to children who are diagnosed with this disease. Jason embodies hope, faith, diligence, and strength. These characteristics are everything Merlin Packaging believes in and take "Great Strides" to accomplish. Keep on walking Jason.
